Welcome to the LSU Office of Research & Economic Department's (ORED) Website
The Office of Research & Economic Development (ORED) promotes advanced research, creative scholarship and economic development. We see firsthand the impact research and creative pursuits have on faculty, staff, students and the university as a whole. As an institution, it is time to think boldly as the challenges of research are complex and the solutions require great resources of talent, expertise and infrastructure as well as collaborations that engage diverse disciplines. As an aim of the University’s National Flagship Agenda, the Office of Research’s focus on intellectual property development and commercialization activities create a more lasting impact on the economic development of Louisiana and beyond.
In the Office of Research, we are reaching beyond institutional, state, and national borders to find partners to develop collaborative research programs with national and international laboratories or launching joint ventures with private business. These partnerships enhance the educational experience of all LSU students and provide an important stimulus to the economy of Louisiana. Through these partnerships, ORED continues to work to develop a research environment that attracts the best and brightest faculty, staff and students to LSU.
LSU’s external research funding during the 2008-09 fiscal year reached an all-time high of $156.3 million, a tribute to our outstanding faculty, students and staff. With support from national sources like the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the National Endowment for the Humanities, Department of Homeland Security and NASA, LSU is forging new frontiers in hurricane response and preparedness, bioscience, national security, technology, literature, coastal sciences, and genetics. At any given time, there are more than 2,000 sponsored research projects being conducted by the more than 6,000 faculty and graduate students at LSU.
We invite you to tour this Website and learn more about research at Louisiana State University. If you have any questions, please contact us at 225-578-5833 or research@lsu.edu.
