The Office of Research & Economic Development and the Council on Research are pleased to issue this call for nominations for several awards in recognition of excellence in research by LSU faculty. 

 

2011 Rainmakers Nomination Guidelines

 

 

Four copies, along with the original of each nomination must be delivered to Dr. Matthew Lee in the Office of Research & Economic Development, 130 David Boyd Hall by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.

 

 

For each category listed below, one award can be granted on an annual basis to a faculty member in the Arts, Humanities, Social or Behavioral Sciences, and a second to a faculty member in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics. Packets should specify the nomination area for which the nominee is to be considered.

 

 

Boyd professors and previous Distinguished Research Master recipients are not eligible for Rainmaker Awards. An individual can receive an award in a given category only once.

 

 

Criteria for high quality research/creative activities and scholarship include, but are not limited to: publication in a high impact journal(s); a highly cited work; external awards; invited presentations at national and international meetings; high journal publication productivity; critically acclaimed book publication(s), performance(s), exhibits(s) or theatrical production(s); high grant productivity; and, for more senior candidates, outstanding citation records and high impact invited presentations at national and international meetings.

 

 

Emerging Scholar Award - Recognition of outstanding research/creative productivity and scholarship for a junior faculty member holding either a full-time tenure-track or tenured position with typically no more than eight years of academic experience or comparable research/creative activities.  A one-time stipend and a plaque can be granted to one applicant from each nomination area.

 

 

Mid-Career Scholar Award - Recognition of a faculty member holding a tenured position at LSU with typically eight to fifteen years of research/creative activities and scholarship who is exhibiting a sustained program of excellence, and has strong name recognition in his or her field. A one-time stipend and a plaque can be granted to one applicant from each nomination area.

 

 

Senior Scholar Award - Recognition of a faculty member whose work is comparable to the quality of that considered for the Distinguished Research Master award. This award is typically reserved for a faculty member who has fifteen or more years of research/creative activities and scholarship, has exhibited a sustained program of excellence as measured by significant contributions to his or her field.  A one-time stipend and a plaque can be granted to one applicant from each nomination area.
